They say it’s a small world. Well with advances in technology, particularly that relating to communication and travel, it’s only getting smaller. Today, it’s never been easier for the world’s farmers to share ideas, expertise and farming practices. So what lessons can we learn from our international counterparts when it comes to making good quality, nutritious silage?
MoreA. Choose a reputable long established brand, which exhibits a high level of tack, to achieve a good seal around the bale. Do not make price per reel a priority, as in general "you get what you pay for". Ask wrapper manufacturers which brand they use.
Through a network of factories located across the UK - including a recently expanded, state-of-the-art facility in Leominster, Herefordshire - we supply products used by farmers and agricultural contractors across the globe. These products include silage sheeting, silage bags and a number of well-known brands of balewrap such as Silotite®, Visqueen Poliwrap® and Polybale®.
To ensure our continued success and in order to build on a track record that includes developing the world’s first multi-layer, co-extruded silage stretch film, we have a strong commitment to product research and development. We also actively seek the feedback of our customers and work closely with key research establishments such as the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Research (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University (www.aber.ac.uk/en/ibers/).
Combined, these factors allow us to develop new and ever more capable solutions to today’s silage production needs. Solutions which are based on the latest scientific findings, raw material advances, developments in manufacturing technology and experiences of the end-user.
We are a key member of The Silage Advisory Centre (SilAC) - an industry initiative that promotes the science of silage to aid farmers’ decision-making on bale silage production, forage and grassland management. SilAC's mission is to aid UK and Irish livestock farmers produce quality and nutritional silage at a reasonable profit though research, demo farms, seminars, knowledge transfer and advisory tools. This initiative is supported by member organisations who have a shared interest in supporting on-farm decision-making when it comes to silage production, fodder and grassland management.
