They say it’s a small world. Well with advances in technology, particularly that relating to communication and travel, it’s only getting smaller. Today, it’s never been easier for the world’s farmers to share ideas, expertise and farming practices. So what lessons can we learn from our international counterparts when it comes to making good quality, nutritious silage?

Q. How long can I keep wrapped bales?
A. We recommend that bales are fed within 12 months of being wrapped.

Committed to quality

Quality is a cornerstone of the bpi.agri approach. To ensure our products perform precisely as you’d expect time after time, we operate rigorous quality assurance systems with every aspect of our operations – from the raw materials we use through to our choice of product packaging – being subject to random quality checks. As a result of this impressive attention to detail and belief in maintaining the highest standards all our factories hold ISO 9001:2008 quality certification.

In order to keep our products at the leading edge in terms of quality and capability, we also work closely with a number of key research partners. These partners include The Institute of Biological Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS); an organisation that’s internationally respected for its work on silage and silage production.

Protecting the environment

As a business that supplies the agricultural industry, bpi.agri understands the importance of preserving natural resources and of minimising the environmental impact of all our activities. All of our products are 100% recyclable and we work closely with our sister business, bpi.recycled products, the largest reprocessor of waste polythene in Europe, to help ‘close the loop’ on waste and keep reusable polythene in circulation - and out of landfill.

Every tonne of plastic that BPI recycles:
• Prevents the release into the atmosphere of 1.4T CO2.
• Saves 1.8T of crude oil.
• Reduces water usage by 90% compared to using virgin material.

In recent years bpi.recycled products has invested over £18million into its state of the art recycling facilities where it reprocesses used agricultural films including silage stretchwrap and silage sheets from farms across the UK through a network of nationwide collectors.

These farm films are recycled into a variety of practical, useful products including the award-winning range of Plaswood street furniture and The Green Sack range of refuse bags.

Plaswood, an environmental alternative to traditional materials, is used in fencing, bollards, seating and decking products. It is low maintenance, rot proof and algae resistant and can be fully recycled once again at the end of its life.

The Green Sack is the toughest, greenest refuse sack currently available in the UK marketplace. Made from 100% recycled British farm waste plastics that might otherwise be burnt or sent to landfill, it has a carbon footprint at least 35% lower than imported refuse sacks.

For further information regarding recycling your agricultural films, please contact bpi.recycled products via recycle@bpipoly.com or on +44 (0)845 304 2567. Concerns about the environment have resulted in many countries developing collection and recycling schemes for used farm plastics. If you are based outside the UK please contact your Local Authority for advice regarding local collection and recycling facilities.
